Who we are

Basketball is the vehicle. Youth development is the outcome.

Competitive sport is positive and challenging. We use that environment to help students work through the mental, social and behavioural challenges they face at school and in their communities.

Basketball gets students engaged and keeps them coming back. What we really want is for them to understand themselves better, cope with setbacks and make positive choices. Every session pairs skill development with emotional literacy, life skills and mentoring, in a space that is structured, challenging, fair and emotionally safe.

Measuring impact

We track the change

Every program includes structured evaluation, so your school can see the difference it makes.

Session reports

After every session, each coach writes a report on the group's engagement, behaviour and performance.

Goal tracking

Students set personal goals and review them regularly with their coaches.

Behaviour data

We compare attendance, referrals and classroom behaviour at the start, middle and end of the program.

Staff & family feedback

Teachers, support staff and families (where appropriate) receive mid- and end-of-program summaries.

What schools say

“Students have demonstrated improved engagement in school, stronger peer connections and more positive behaviour.”

“The program has created a supportive and motivating environment for students who may otherwise be at risk of disengagement, and we believe it would be a valuable initiative for other schools seeking to strengthen student wellbeing and participation.”

Meet the founders

We've been there

Luka and Armand both struggled in school with bullying and self-confidence. Basketball gave them belonging, structure and resilience. They started Big Change Sports to give young people the same thing.
